Here’s how we try to deal with conflicts of interest on the site.

Yes, this website generates money. There are affiliate and advertising relationships between the website and third-parties, which introduce potential financial conflicts of interests. In the spirit of full disclosure, these conflicts are highlighted and outlined below so that you can make a fully-informed decision as you’re reading the free content.

“For-Profit” as Opposed to “Non-Profit”

The primary goal of this website is to assist intelligent lawyers and other high-income professionals who have invested long hours in their careers achieve their financial goals (although, secretly we’d also like to reduce your stress and anxiety overall). Many of these individuals did not receive financial training, nor have they adequately come up with a plan to tackle student loan debt, buy a house or achieve financial independence.

This site costs money to develop, run and maintain and a significant amount of effort has been expended to find and nurture the relationships with the individuals and companies on this page. We couldn’t have done that without running this site as a “for-profit” business.

Free to the Reader

There is no subscription or charges for premium content. All the information contained in the website is completely free. There are no extra costs for using the links on this site. You are welcome to find other sources which discuss the topics that we cover on the site, although we appreciate you using our links to support the site and also to get the special deals that we’ve negotiated for you.

How This Site Makes Money

This site generally makes money in one of two different ways: 1) Affiliate marketing programs; or 2) Direct Advertisements. The site is compensated if you click on a link from this website and subsequently perform some type of action on the affiliate site, such as making a purchase or opening an account. The site then receives a commission once you’ve taken an action.

All affiliate relationships have been thoroughly considered and involve only companies whose products we believe would be useful to the readers. The affiliate nature of the relationship between the website and the affiliate partners does not increase the costs of the product or service paid by you. In other words, you aren’t worse off by clicking through the links on this site.

Hopefully this will assist you in evaluating the financial conflicts of interest. If you’re having trouble telling content apart from advertising, please contact me. Your privacy is also important. I will never sell or disclose your email address.

FTC Disclosure

Regardless of the above, the FTC requires websites to disclose whenever there could be hidden interests or unspoken biases related to recommendations.

I’m taking the generous offer of Tim Ferris to reproduce his disclosure:

Per the FTC rules, if we interview someone and they grab the bill for lunch, we would need to disclose this. Ditto if we use an Amazon link that gets me 8 cents instead of an Amazon link that gets us 0 cents. If someone gives us a comfy t-shirt with a logo and we wear it in a photo, same deal. Disclaimers all over the place. This would be tedious for us and even more tedious for readers. But rules is rules. To cover our ass and preserve your reading experience, please assume that, for every link and product we use, the following all hold true:
